I discovered foam board in 2000. Having worked with fabric on polystyrene forms before by making christmas decoration on polystyrene balls, I used the same principle with the board.
I started my first fabric pictures with scraps of fabrics and I immediately enjoyed the way of creating the pictures with the fabric "inlaid" into the board.
I tested different ways of covering the board to get a nice background and I ended up with wallpaper which offers a large choice of textures and colours.
Selecting patchwork fabric mainly because of the large choice of small patterns, I improved the technique by adding ribbon, sequins, lace... to embellish the pictures.
Then I decided to exhibit and sell my pictures on fairs and markets. There, I realized the interest of people into this craft and I made my first fabric picture KITS.
Inspired by quilting and appliqué designs, I made pictures
with bonnet children, bonnet ladies, animals,....
I made also "name plaques" for children rooms.
They are great to use colourful fabrics !
In 2006, I discovered the self adhesive foam board which gave me the idea to explore a new craft area : sand pictures. The sand art has been used in different cultures such as Navajo Indians from North America, Lamas from Tibet or Aborigines in Australia. Easy to find and to colour, the sand is a great material to work with. I colour the sand myself which gives me an endless range of colours. I concentrate mostly on ethnic designs because I think the mineral material can give the best simple and colouful patterns.
The principle is so simple and working with sand is so attractive that I decided to make my own sand pictures KITS for children. The design drawn on the board is pre-cut in the kit, so the children don't have to use any sharp tool. They just have to peel off the protecting film before pouring the coloured sand on the self-adhesive surface.
